Anonymous said: Brown receives no sympathy from me. He's just another thug who robs people and had the potential of becoming a serious offender. A waste of space. Yes i would say the same if he was white, blue or orange. Its not just because "he's black".
You only typed 3 complete sentences yet you hit 3 different places on White Opinion Bingo: Ferguson Edition. That’s impressive.
You would have won if you’d have just kept typing for 10 more seconds.
I’ve been incredibly blessed in my life with the ability to earn a good living as a storyteller and creative artist. I’m not naive to my privilege or the opportunities it affords me.
But there are still too many places in America where I’m a nigger (even though they couch it in a different vernacular) born in Mobile, Alabama (with a birth certificate that listed my race as colored) and raised in Greenville, South Carolina. I’ve been reminded of this on the too frequent occasions in my adult life where I’ve been pulled over by cops for no legitimate reason (other than the ones they came up with after the fact). And let’s be real — at this point in my life I don’t have to deal with a fraction of what working class POC in places like Ferguson experience on a daily basis. Cuz we all know there’s nothing more criminal than being POOR and BLACK.
So I wonder…
#IfTheyGunnedMeDown what photo would they use?
Tumblr goes in, y’all.
LMFAO I was wondering why that post was getting reblogged out of nowhere.
Did they do this with their consent? This may open up folks to more abuse
Holycrap we’re on there. I’m on there.
when did this happen
not to mention buzz-feed is collecting ad-money
buzzfeed y’all distributing checks for our work or nah?
the people who are plagiarized are
REBLOGGING BECAUSE THIS IS IMPORTANT
I’m just glad they are giving everyone credit for your words instead of stealing the shit
like they always do.
So many faves here!
That’s not plagiarism. It’s new media.
They credit everyone, and tbh if you’re posting anything on tumblr or twitter, and it’s popular, it’s gonna get mined for content, co-opted by some content provider, or media outlet or whatever the website is purporting to be. You put something on the internet, you don’t get to choose where it ends up, good or bad, whether you were paid for it or you posted it on your blog. You might not agree, and yeah, it’s some bullshit, but it’s the world we live in now. If you think you deserve to be paid for a piece of writing, don’t post it on tumblr.
But that’s beside the point when people have had their words stolen for profit. Phd candidates and schools have browsed people’s tumblrs taking their words. There’s a long history of stealing from poc (particularly black people, particularly black women - see recently, Whitelandia)
SOMEBODY GOT PAID TO POST THAT ARTICLE AND NONE OF THE PEOPLE THEY QUOTED WERE NOTIFIED OR COMPENSATED FOR THEIR WORDS.
You can’t just run around screencapping and copy and pasting people’s shit for money.
Save that bullshit tactic for your college thesis paper, but when you start making money off that shit it’s a PROBLEM.
Still glad to see my folks made it to the mainstream media, though.Remember that time my insignificant ass got plagiarized bybuzzfeed?
The bolded is absolutely right. 100%
FYI that chick AwesomelyLuvvie does the same thing that buzzfeed did in this article, and she’s making money off her blog. I’m not coming for her because I don’t think she’s doing anything wrong. I’m just pointing out that nobody had a problem with aggregating social media posts of Black people then, but they have a problem with it now.
I don’t know what rock y’all been living under but there are a zillion sites dedicated to reposting cool things found on social media and its been going on for years.
why in the FUCK are you casting people like Zoe Saldana to play people like Nina Simone.
When you have actors who are way more talented and actually resemble the people you want to portray. Like Lorraine flippin’ Toussaint!!!!!
you know why… smh
^^^^^^^^ you knooooooooow
